Referee Information

Welcome Referees!

Refereeing is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling things you can do as part of the AYSO family. AYSO welcomes parents, relatives and friends to referee. Whether you are a novice or a past player, we will teach you everything you will need to know about the game and laws of soccer. We're here to help you get the most out of referee experience to help enrich children's lives with training and mentoring.  This year we will even be adding more referee tents for each of the divisions (i.e. George Lane, Lower Joe Walker, etc.) and mentoring opportunities to help you transition into the unique position.

3 Steps to become an AYSO Certified Referee:

Before you can become an AYSO referee there are several requirements that need to be completed. All these steps are necessary to protect our children and both train and protect you as a volunteer.

 1.  Register as a Volunteer and complete online Safety training
To do this, go to: http://www.ayso638.org on the upper right corner choose LOGIN.  Create a login if this is your first time.

If you are not already a volunteer then follow the steps to become a volunteer.  Every volunteer MUST have their own unique login email.  Youth volunteers CANNOT volunteer using their parents already used email address.  AYSOU will not allow it.

Once you are a volunteer you will have to take some short on-line trainings that all volunteers must complete per California Law:
SafeHaven, Concussion Awareness, Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Safesport.  Get these completed before attending the referee training you are about to sign up for. Volunteers will also need to be fingerprinted, regardless if fingerprints have been done for work or other volunteer organizations.

 2. In AYSOU sign up for one of our in-person referee courses.

- After logging in to SportsConnect with your unique email address choose VOLUNTEER on the left side of the page
then click the AYSOU button on the right side of the page.
- Choose TRAINING EVENT from the left side of the page advance the calendar to either August 24, 2024 or September 22, 2024
- Choose “AYSO Regional Referee Course” in the lower right corner choose ENROLL

 3.  Attend class and complete training.

Please arrive approximately 15 minutes before the start of class at 8am
- Drinks, snacks and lunch will be served
- At the completion of the course and all other required training, you will be provided with a referee uniform and will be given access to the program where you will self-assign yourself to the games you wish to referee
